When Justin Wahobin decided he wanted to ask Samantha Warren to marry him, he didn’t want it to be a run-of-the-mill proposal.
Wahobin popped the question on the ice at SaskTel Centre during the second intermission at the Saskatoon Blades’ game Saturday.
“For a while I’ve been cooking it up. I just thought it would be great (for the proposal) to come (during the game) because she would never expect it at the Blades game,” said Wahobin.
When Warren first saw Wahobin drop to his knee, she at first assumed he fell and hurt himself.
“It was like, ‘Well, of course he gets hurt, so what am I supposed to do?’ I started walking slowly to make sure I didn’t fall and just made sure he was OK,” Warren said.
Once she realized what was actually going on, she was shocked.
“I was vibrating. I didn’t even know what to do. As soon as I saw him kind of smirking, it was like, ‘Oh no! He’s up to something,’ ” Warren said with a laugh.
Warren said it was a bit nerve-wracking to share the big moment with so many people, but it was all good.
The couple’s five children were at the game with them to be part of the big moment.
Oh … and she said yes.
