The number of dogs you can bring into the city’s dog parks could change, along with how many chances they get before they’re banned.
The amendments to the city’s bylaws were passed through by the city’s Standing Policy Committee on Planning, Development and Community Services. They will be looked at during council’s meeting on Feb. 24.
The changes to both the Animal Control and the Dangerous Animals bylaws come every second year for Saskatoon. Councillor Zach Jeffries says it’s all about keeping up with the changing times.
“The animal bylaws are reviewed every other year. Just like any bylaw that we have, sometimes things change and you want those regular reviews to take place.”
Owners heading to Saskatoon-owned dog parks could be capped at four dogs off-leash at a time. Before the proposed amendment, owners could bring as many dogs as they wanted to the parks.
Another change to the bylaw included how nuisance dogs are policed. They will have chances before they’re completely banned from the dog parks.
“For inappropriate behaviour at a park, it’s a three strikes, you’re out type of rule,” Jeffries explained.
The rules aren’t solidified as of yet. They’ll need approval from city council to become law.
