The recent warm weather was a blessing after the extreme cold a couple of weeks ago.
But a week straight of thawing and freezing has done a number on the city’s roads.
“We have received some reports already for the potholes and we will be dispatching crews over the weekend to undertake some repairs,” said Goran Saric director of roadways, fleet and support for the city of Saskatoon.
“At this time of year, we typically repair potholes with a special mix of asphalt called cold mix. That basically provides a temporary repair until we can do a more permanent repair in the springtime using hot mix asphalt.”
According to Saric, they are planning to address as many potholes as they can over the weekend starting with the worst locations.
He said new technology helps them fix potholes faster but that only helps for the permanent spring and summertime fixes.
“In the summertime, we have more options and benefits from new technology. In the wintertime, not so much because we are focusing on the temporary repairs and we have only cold mix to use as the material for filling potholes,” said Goran.
Goran said if you experience damages to your vehicle you can submit a claim with the city. You can also contact customer care at (306) 975-2476, or by email at customercare@saskatoon.ca.
