Tonight’s hockey game between the Oilers and Flames is must-see TV in an era where there are too few moments in regular seasons that are must-see for sports fans.
It’s not only a rivalry but there is emotion and controversy going into it.
Zach Kassian wants to fight Matt Tkachuk and the Flames want to see Kassian lose it again, as long as it means a Calgary win.
The problem now in sports is the school of media relations that coaches players to say the right thing, and don’t give the other team bulletin board material … blah blah blah.
Even CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie acknowledged that when the new owner of the Montreal Alouettes said the Toronto Argonauts suck, it was actually a good thing. Ambrosie said it adds a little more fuel to an East Division rivalry.
In the end sports is entertainment, and they all need to do a better job of selling matchups and rivalries.
The Flames-Oilers rivalry has been a bit stale over the last few years, but tonight, there’s no way I’m going to miss it.
