Nutrien’s Vanscoy potash mine won’t reopen until “at least” the end of February, leaving more than 250 workers in the lurch.
Media manager Will Tigley confirmed the second shutdown extension to 650 CKOM in an email Friday morning, citing “ongoing market conditions.”
The mine was one of three shuttered in November due to a glut of potash supply on the international market, and the closure was extended in December through to the end of January.
Workers at Nutrien’s Allan and Lanigan operations returned to their jobs just before the new year.
Tigley wasn’t definitive on whether Vanscoy’s mine would resume operations at the end of the month.
“We have decided to continue Vanscoy’s downtime until at least the end of February,” he wrote.
More to come.
