There was something very Canadian about Larry Walker’s Hall of Fame induction day.
Before he got the call, Walker took to social media, suggesting he wouldn’t get the votes needed to be inducted into baseball’s shrine. In doing so, he thanked everyone for their support.
There are some high-profile former major league players who are very bitter about the game of baseball, who have been overlooked by the Hall of Fame. Walker appeared to be appreciative of just being that close to induction.
You know the rest of the story by now. The three-time batting champion, five-time all-star and seven-time Gold Glove winner got in in his final year of eligibility. It was as if not just Walker but the country of Canada got the call from Cooperstown.
The follow-up interviews on Tuesday told the story of a man who openly admitted he couldn’t hold in the tears when he learned of the induction. Walker was very humbled, very honoured and very thankful … very Canadian.
