March 18 is a big date in the NFL. That is when player contracts end and free agency begins.
NFL fans, knee deep in their fantasy leagues, are also keeping an eye on a certain television commentator. There are reports that Tony Romo could more than double his salary from this season to next. Romo is said to be making $4 million with CBS, but in the fall of 2020, he could make as much as $10 million.
Romo’s conversational style, incredible insight and fun approach has been a hit with NFL football fans. Not since John Madden has an analyst had such an impact on the profession.
ESPN’s Monday Night Football needs a makeover and is expected to show an interest in Romo. (As it should.)
CBS may have to pay up to maintain its hold on Sunday football, or lose out on a broadcaster who has struck a chord with hardcore football fans not seen in decades.
