The Kansas City Chiefs appear to be in position to end a five-decade drought as Super Bowl champions.
Normally I’d make a Super Bowl pick the Friday before the championship game, but I just think that K.C.’s diverse offence will be too much for the San Francisco 49ers on Feb. 2 in Miami.
In a 51-31 win over Houston a little over a week ago, Travis Kelce had 10 catches for 134 yards and three touchdowns. In the AFC championship game Sunday against Tennessee, the big tight end had just three catches for 30 yards.
In contrast to that, Tyreek Hill had just 41 yards in receiving against the Texans, and was targeted just four times. On Sunday, Hill caught two touchdown passes in the 35-24 victory over the Titans.
Not only do the Chiefs have an offence that can win with an inside possession game and the deep ball, but K.C. has a quarterback who will keep San Francisco’s defence honest. Lay back in coverage and Patrick Mahomes will beat them with his legs. If the Niners bring too much pressure, Mahomes has proven he can find the open target.
It looks as if it’ll be a February to remember in Kansas City.
