Saskatchewan’s frigid forecast is nearing its end

After over a week of extremely cold temperatures, it looks as though warmer days area ahead in Saskatchewan.

Environment Canada’s Dave Carlsen said overnight and into Monday morning, the air flow over top of the province will switch from cold arctic air to warm pacific air. That will create above seasonal temperatures for the coming week.

“We’re going to see our temperatures jump by a whole lot,” he said. “Instead of the – 15 C to -20 C that we’re seeing (Sunday), we’re going to see high’s around – 5 C… it’s going to be quite a big change.”

Carlsen said the warm temperatures are forecast for at least the next week in the province. The temperature is expected to peak on Tuesday, with high’s of – 1 C forecast for Regina, and – 3 C for Saskatoon.

With the temperature changing so drastically into Monday, Carlsen said there are a few things to watch out for.

“Any snow or ice that may be on the roadways is probably going to melt, and get a little bit slushy,” he said. “That might make some travel a little bit dicey. Of course, stock up on the washer fluid, because your cars going to get really, really messy.”
