The last game of the Regina Pats’ U.S. Division road swing was one to forget, as they fell 6-2 to the Spokane Chiefs in Saturday night WHL action.
The loss leaves the Pats (13-24-3-2) with one win and four losses on the trip.
Through two periods of play on Saturday, Regina was in a relatively good position, down 2-1 and heading into the third period at even strength.
But the Chiefs mounted a three-goal run in one minute and 13 seconds, putting them up 5-1 not even five minutes into the final frame.
Adam Beckman started the scoring drive with a powerplay goal at 3:15 of the third, followed by scores from Brad Ginnell and Reed Jacobson.
It was enough chase Regina goalie Donovan Buskey from the net; Pats head coach Dave Struch replaced him with Danton Belluk.
Spokane centreman Reed Jacobson managed to beat Belluk, notching his team’s sixth goal at 14:08.
Regina had goals from Logan Nijhoff — a powerplay marker at 13:31 in the second period — and Zack Smith at 16:35 in the third period.
Buskey had 22 saves for the Pats, while Belluk had 12.
Regina now returns home. They’ll next play the Lethbridge Hurricanes (26-11-2-5) on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Brandt Centre.
