Saskatchewan in January is probably not the hot tourist destination most people consider for a trip, but for visitors from warmer climates, the cold can be a pretty cool experience.
“I love it, it’s really nice,” said Jordan Drew, who is from Brisbane, Australia.
On the tail end of extreme cold warnings with windchills still in the -30 C range on Thursday, he almost forgot to put gloves on to go outside, explaining that frostbite is only something he has read about in books.
“That’s probably the strangest thing, having to rug up a lot,” he said, referring to all the extra layers people wear here.
When he saw the forecast for extreme cold, he claimed he was really excited for cold and snow and wants to see a real prairie blizzard, provided that everyone stays safe.
“The weirdest thing is the snow; the snow is amazing. It’s the best part of winter and I’ve never really seen it at all until now,” Drew said.
While people born and raised on the prairies might dream of a hot country where a cold day in winter means -10 C, Drew would highly recommend a trip to Saskatchewan to his friends back home.
“I would say it’s lovely (and) I would say it’s definitely worth coming out to see,” he said. “It’s definitely odd, but odd in a very good way.”
