The extreme cold weather that blanketed Saskatchewan for most of the week finally let up on Friday, as there were almost no cold warning statements issued from Environment Canada.
The only region under such a statement was Lloydminster, straddling the border between Saskatchewan and Alberta; all of Alberta was under an extreme cold warning from the weather agency.
Temperatures in most towns and cities levelled out and remained between -20 C and -30.
As of 6:20 on Friday morning, the province’s cold spot was Kindersley at -24 C, with a wind chill value of -36.
Saskatoon was the warm spot at -20 C. Its wind chill value was listed at -26.
Further north, La Ronge was sitting at -23 C with a wind chill of -30. In the far north, Collins Bay was at -29, with a wind chill value of -35.
In the south, Regina was at -22 C with a wind chill of -34.
For Lloydminster, Environment Canada sad in its weather statement “a multi-day episode of very cold wind chills continues. The coldest wind chill values will be near -45 C.”
It also said “wind chill values will be extreme once again tonight over most of the province as skies clear.
“Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.”
