Saskatoon firefighters spent over three hours in the cold putting out a house fire in the Mayfair neighbourhood Tuesday night.
The call came in just before 8 p.m. When crews arrived on scene, they found heavy flames coming from the basement of the Avenue C North home.
In a release, the fire department said four trucks initially responded, however two more engines were called later to relieve exhausted firefighters.
“The structure had many void spaces in the walls along with wood-chip insulation. It was very difficult to extinguish all hot spots,” the release said.
Nobody was inside the home at the time of the fire, however a firefighter was injured and taken to hospital. His injury was described as a minor puncture wound while working around the exterior of the home.
A police and fire investigator were on scene. A cause and damage estimate have yet to be determined.
