A Saskatchewan farmer is getting a big following online with his alter-ego Quick Dick McDick.
His YouTube channel features videos with commentary on the federal carbon tax, Parliament Hill, budgets and living in Saskatchewan.
But don’t expect to hear his real name.
He told John Gormley he would rather keep his real identity under wraps for the sake of his mom.
“I’m quite certain that (my mom) would still want me using my public name for everybody to know how to get a hold of her,” he said with a laugh. “There are a few things she might not be the proudest of.”
For McDick, he thinks a bit of humour is a good way to get a new perspective on divisive issues.
“I like to make sure that we do lots of laughing when we’re watching Quick Dick because it’s the one thing, typically now more than ever, that we really need in the world,” he explained.
One of his recent videos, which pokes fun at vegan diets of some protestors, has recorded more than 160,000 views in its first week.
For the most part, McDick said the feedback he gets on his videos is positive.
He doesn’t mind the occasional criticism if it’s respectful.
