The Swift Current Broncos traded team captain Ethan Regnier on Friday, just hours before the WHL trade deadline.
The 19-year-old forward from Prince Albert was traded to the Everett Silvertips along with 2002-born import defenceman Kaspar Puutio. In return, Swift Current will receive 2000-born import forward Martin Fasko-Rudas, 2001-born defenceman Parker Hendren, a 2020 first-round pick and a 2022 second-round pick.
Regnier served as the Broncos’ captain this season and recorded nine goals and 12 assists in 34 games. Regnier was a member of the 2018 WHL championship-winning Broncos team and has played 159 regular-season games with Swift Current.
Puutio, who is from Vaasa, Finland, was taken in the first round (58th overall) of the 2019 CHL import draft. He has one goal and 15 assists in 35 games.
Fasko-Rudas, from Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, is in his third WHL season. In 147 career games, he has scored 25 goals and recorded 29 assists.
Hendren, who is from Regina, was drafted in the seventh round (134th overall) by the Vancouver Giants in 2016.
The Broncos now hold 10 picks in the first five rounds of the 2020 WHL bantam draft.
