The fall of the New England Patriots is not something I’d ever feel comfortable predicting.
Sure, it’ll be correct someday and maybe it is now.
Too often when you think they’re done, they’re reborn and win again. And here we are with Tom Brady musing about free agency and their assistant coaches being rumoured getting head-coaching jobs and speculation that the Patriots dynasty will crumble this off-season.
This is something I’ve got to see to believe. And maybe the dynasty continues but the quarterback changes. The San Francisco 49ers had Joe Montana and Bill Walsh win three Super Bowls, then George Seifert took over, winning one more with Montana and another with Steve Young.
The Patriot Way is just that good. As much as for almost 20 years it has been Bill and Tom, they can win without each other.
I think too many people want the fall to happen. They’re trying to will it to happen.
And until we see consistent failure from the Patriots, I’ll never buy that the dynasty is over. Even if Tom leaves.
