Ethan Regnier scored the only goal of the shootout as the Swift Current Broncos beat the Regina Pats 5-4 on Saturday in WHL action at the Brandt Centre.
Carson Denomie, Robbie Holmes and Jan Cikhart all failed to score for Regina in the shootout. Regnier was the first shooter for the Broncos and his shot trickled in after bouncing off Pats goalie Max Paddock.
The victory allowed the Broncos (9-24-1-2) to sweep a home-and-home series. They beat Regina 7-5 in Swift Current on Friday.
The Pats fell to 11-20-3-2 with Saturday’s loss.
Regina led 2-0 after the first period on a pair of goals by Denomie, but Swift Current tied the contest in the second on goals by Eric Houk and Garrett Sambrook.
Kye Buchanan and Regnier scored in the third to put the Broncos ahead 4-2, but power-play goals by Drew Englot and Zach Wytinck helped the Pats tie the game.
Wytinck scored the tying goal with 1:22 left in regulation time and Paddock on the bench for an extra skater.
Paddock stopped 22 shots through regulation time and overtime for the Pats. Reece Klassen made 36 saves for the Broncos through the game’s first 65 minutes.
Regina is to complete a string of three games in three days when it entertains the Brandon Wheat Kings on Sunday. Game time at the Brandt Centre is set for 4 p.m.
