It was a busy night for Saskatoon Police on New Year’s Eve in the Bridge City.
Along with RCMP, Saskatchewan Highway Patrol and Corman Park Police, they issued over 400 roadside breath tests that night.
Police took 14 impaired drivers off the road, according to tweets from Saskatoon Police Service’s Traffic Unit.
Two people were arrested, one for having a blood alcohol content (BAC) over 0.08 per cent and another for failing to provide a breath sample. Both drivers lost their vehicles for 60 days.
Ten drivers received roadside suspensions for exceeding 0.04 BAC, losing their vehicles for three days. Two more were suspended for THC.
Additionally, three of the drivers were new drivers— learners, novice or under the age of 22. Those drivers are subject to zero tolerance for any intoxicants.
Two of the three incurred a 30-day suspension with their vehicles impounded, while the remaining driver was suspended, with impound, for THC impairment.
In comparison, on New Years Eve in 2018 just one drunk driving charge was issued.
Police administered over 1,000 roadside breath tests on that day, resulting in “several liquor-related tickets.”
