It was another record-breaking year for Saskatoon Search and Rescue in 2019.
They helped solve 34 different missing person cases.
Shelley Ballard-McKinlay, Saskatoon Search and Rescue communications director, said most of the work comes from their Project Lifesaver initiative. It’s a program designed to help find people who are likely to wander and get lost, like those with dementia or Alzheimer’s.
“It’s a relief for families to know that if their loved one does go missing, that there’s some backup there, and there’s a plan in place to deal with it,” she told 650 CKOM.
She pointed to the practice of giving tracking bracelets to people at risk of going missing as a big help.
“It brings a lot of peace of mind to the families.”
They worked with police from Saskatoon and Prince Albert as well as Mounties throughout the year.
In 2018, they were involved in 28 cases, which was their record at the time.
