The Regina Pats lost their first game since returning from their Christmas break, dropping a 4-1 decision to the Wheat Kings in Brandon on Monday night in WHL action.
Brandon found the back of the net first when left-winger Ben McCartney beat Regina goaltender Max Paddock at the 14:03 mark of the first period.
A four-on-four goal from Wheat Kings left-winger Ridly Greig pushed the Brandon lead to two goals in the second period.
In the third period, Pats centre Cole Dubinsky scored Regina’s only goal of the game just 1:57 into the third period.
But Brandon would pull away with two unanswered goals from forward Ty Thorpe and centre Luka Burzan in the final frame of the game.
Both teams had problems staying out of the box, with Brandon taking six penalties while the Pats committed nine.
Despite the amount of times each team found themselves on the power play, neither team scored a goal with a man advantage in the game.
The Pats (10-19-3-1) will host the Prince Albert Raiders on Wednesday at the Brandt Centre with puck drop set for 4 p.m.
