As we move into the holiday season, mild but cloudy conditions are in store for Saskatchewan.
Environment Canada is forecasting cloudy conditions leading up to Christmas, but the province is milder than the seasonal temperatures.
Shannon Moodie, meteorologist with Environment Canada, said the conditions will create some morning fog for those traveling to their holiday destinations.
Aside from the fog, there’s not much more to report Moodie said.
“If people are getting up early in the morning, they may see some fog lingering around. But, in general, there’s no major systems that are about to cross the province, so, just looking at milder temperatures and a lot of cloudy conditions.”
In Regina and southern Saskatchewan, seasonal temperatures are supposed to hover between -10 C and -22 C, while people in Saskatoon and central Saskatchewan are used to normal between -9 C and -19 C.
Instead, highs of -5 C in both Regina and Saskatoon are forecast for the week, with overnight lows peaking at – 14 C in Regina, and – 12 C in Saskatoon.
Moodie said these temperatures will continue and no systems are expected to affect the mild conditions.
As for the rest of winter, Moodie was blunt in her cold weather outlook.
“It’s only December and we live in the Canadian prairies, so will the cold return? I’m going to be pretty confident and say yes,” she said. “We got a long way to go yet.”
