An announcer at C95, a sister station of 650 CKOM, realized he was getting asked a lot of questions about not drinking alcoholic drinks at holiday functions.
That prompted Tim Stone to tell a bit of his story on the radio and in a video that he posted on the C95 Facebook page.
The video has more than 113,000 views.
Stone went on the Gormley show Friday to talk about why he shared his experiences of being a non-drinker at this time of the year.
“So I’m at the Rawlco radio client reception, and people go, ‘oh you’re the guy who doesn’t drink,'” said Stone. “I think it’s coming from a good place, I think people want you to be part of the fun. Well I’m here to tell you I can’t be part of that kind of fun. I can be with you and part of the group but when I drink alcohol, bad things happen.”
Stone said he’s comfortable talking about it, but for someone who is trying to quit drinking, it can be an uncomfortable conversation if someone is asking them why they don’t drink, or even trying to coax them to have a drink.
“It can turn into a bad situation and even lead to that person wanting a drink,” Stone said. “Let’s give them a fair chance and a shot at succeeding.”
Stone said for those who choose not to drink alcohol this is a tough time of the year, and he thinks that may be the reason his video is connecting with so many people.
