The cold, arctic air continues blanketing Saskatchewan, prompting Environment Canada to issue extreme cold warnings for certain areas of the province.
As of 4:30 on Wednesday morning, the weather agency issued the weather warnings for the entire northern third of the province, including Uranium City, Fon-du-Lac, Key Lake, Southend and La Loche and their surrounding areas.
Further south, the warnings were issued for central eastern regions.
Those include Prince Albert, Shellbrook, Melfort, Hudson Bay, Lanigan, Canora, Yorkton, Esterhazy and their surrounding areas.
As part of the warning, Environment Canada said the cold air mass is “entrenched over the eastern prairies bringing cold temperatures and bitterly cold wind chill values. Wind chill values of near -40 C are expected this morning before moderating throughout the day.”
It advised people to “watch for cold related symptoms: Shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
“Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.”
And for pet owners, the weather agency said, “if it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
Regina’s forecasted high for Wednesday is -18 C during the day; its forecasted night time low is -21. Saskatoon is expected to reach a high of -20 on Wednesday; its night time low is expected to be -23.
