The Saskatoon Wildlife Federation continued their ‘Hunt 4 Hunger’ Program Tuesday with a delivery of 450-500 lbs of wild ground meat to the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre.
The program began in 2010, and since then the Federation has given over 13,000 lbs of low-fat, high protein wild meat to the organization.
Deborah Hamp, Director of Operations with the Food Bank & Learning Centre said they’re “hopeful” that the meat will last for a while at their organization, and feed a part of their community.
“Ground meat goes a long way because it can be used in so many different ways. We’re really excited for families to be able to take (a) really good source of protein home today, and put a great supper on the table tonight.”
The organization’s numbers have been rising, up to serving over 20,000 people per month in Saskatoon, with almost half that number being children.
Todd Holmquist, Executive director of the Saskatoon Wildlife Federation said they get to play a part on people’s tables, and stressed the need for the donation from their side.
“Our volunteers are always anxious to do anything for the community, and being able to donate this amount of meat to the Saskatoon Food Bank, it’s just a huge feather in our cap.”
The federation said they’re hoping to get another delivery of meat to the Food Bank in the next couple of weeks.
