Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving deserves credit for the way he has handled the media and kept the fans informed during a week that must have been a nightmare.
On Monday evening, once Akim Aliu tweeted that he was the victim of racist acts from Bill Peters 10 years ago, Treliving met the media during a game in Pittsburgh. He quickly let the fans know that the organization was aware of Aliu’s tweet.
The next day, Treliving made himself available to the media again. To his credit, what he wanted to stay confidential stayed confidential. However, he did understand that the media was the pipeline to the fans.
Not every fan is going to endorse today’s decision to accept Peters’ resignation as head coach, but the fan base has been treated with respect and as much transparency as can be expected.
It’s a dark time for the Flames, but supporters should be happy with the leadership Treliving has shown in keeping said supporters informed.
