WestJet cancelled flights out Saskatoon Wednesday due to a nasty storm system in the U.S. that is expected to touch southwestern Alberta.
The airline told 650 CKOM three cancelled flights out of the city Wednesday were scrubbed due to the weather in Calgary.
“We recommend keeping an eye on the status of the flights, as weather is a dynamic situation that unfortunately can’t be guaranteed,” the airline tweeted, when asked if more cancellations are possible.
Wednesday morning Environment Canada issued snowfall and winter storm warnings for areas including Canmore, Lethbridge, Calgary and Strathmore. The agency said between 15 to 40 centimetres of snow, along with gusty winds would hamper driving conditions.
A double whammy of winter weather is threatening to scramble travel plans for millions of Americans ahead of Thanksgiving.
On Tuesday, more than 1,100 passengers were stranded at Denver’s main airport and about 475 flights were canceled after over a foot of snow.
Meanwhile, a separate storm dubbed the“bomb cyclone” is sweeping through California and Oregon with snow and damaging winds.
