A petition pushing for action on Western separation is circulating through Saskatoon.
Eric Wall, an organizer with Wexit Saskatchewan, is trying to build support for a vote on leaving Canada.
He told Gormley he’s gathered between 200 and 300 signatures.
Their first plan is to put pressure on the provincial government.
“Plan A is to use the petition to encourage (the provincial government) to make these changes without having to register a political party. Plan B is to register a political party,” he said.
However, Wall hasn’t yet gotten to the planning stage of what a registered Wexit Party would look like.
“This is a conversation that’s so far in the future right now, I’d rather not have it.”
Regardless of how it’s achieved, his goal is clear: a referendum on separation.
“I think Scott Moe and the Sask. Party owe (a referendum) to the people. After the re-election of Trudeau and the massive surge of support for Wexit and what we’ve been doing, I think it’s only fair,” he told Gormley.
He explained his reasoning as to why he thinks the country should be split up.
“Western Canadians and eastern Canadians are totally different types of people. The way they vote based on Liberal policies such as climate hysteria… we’re a different breed over here.”
