It appears Mike Babcock is preparing himself for the inevitable.
The Toronto Maple Leafs head coach was asked about his future and said a few things that sounded the alarm bells, like the veteran coach knows what’s coming.
He talked about how he wouldn’t coach in Toronto if he had young kids.
He said he’ll always bet on himself.
“I’m going to go as hard as I can as long as I can,” is another comment reminiscent of coaches who see a pink slip on the horizon.
Corey Chamblin had an epic rant about pinning him to the cross a few weeks before he was fired by the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Greg Marshall had a similar mindset before getting fired by the Riders.
The media critiques about Babcock grow by the day, but so too do the team’s losses.
Mike Babcock should bet on himself because he knows he’ll have a job waiting for him when Toronto finally pulls the pin.
Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs will chew up and spit out another good coach when the real problem has rarely been the guy behind the bench.
