The Saskatoon Farmer’s Market is looking at a new location.
It’s at 2612 Koyl Avenue, very close to the airport.
A membership vote on whether to officially begin renting is being held on Saturday.
Executive Director, Erika Quiring thinks the building is a great fit.
“It’s a beautiful property, it’s in a great location, it’s accessible, right off of Circle Drive, it’s easy to get to from all over town,” she told 650 CKOM.
She said it ticks off every box for what they’re looking for in a new location.
“Space, available parking… accessibility, the ability to build and grow,” she listed.
“The majority of our customers are saying that they drive here, and that they would like to have free parking.”
However, she does see some downsides compared to the current city-leased building. Specifically, the cost will go up. Right now, they pay $10 a year, plus utilities and taxes.
“The increase is a significant budget amount for the co-operative. That’s one of the factors that the membership will have to evaluate when they make their decision on Saturday.”
A vote in favour of the new location would leave the original River Landing building open to new renters.
The city has been searching for an option that keeps the space in use for at least six days a week.
