By the time January rolls around, most people are cold, lethargic — probably all around grumpy. But Winterruption is hoping to turn peoples’ frowns upside down in Saskatoon.
The five-day festival features tons of performances, inside and outside, to pull people out of that winter funk.
Organizer Kirby Wirchenko is excited about how this festival has grown during its five-year run.
“We’ve always said, ‘Let’s give people a reason to get out of their house in the longest, coldest, darkest month of winter,’ and they’re doing it,” Wirchenko said.
“At our first Winterruption, we didn’t quite serve 1,700 people. This year, we look to do 10,000 for the indoor shows and another two to three thousand minimum for the outdoor, free events.”
She noted there’s no shortage of talent for this year’s festival.
“The largest show on our roster is called National Geographic Live ‘On The Trail of Big Cats,’ ” said Wirchenko. “It’s an exciting, huge video wall with a great dynamic speaker who can engage an audience and entertain them, but it’s also educational.”
The festival kicks off Jan. 22, 2020.
