On-duty paramedic, toddler among three dead after crash near Beauval

A toddler, a boy and a paramedic are dead after a collision between a truck and an ambulance on Highway 155 Friday evening.

In a media release Saturday, RCMP said the crash happened about 18 kilometres south of Beauval around 5 p.m.

Police said there were two people inside the northbound ambulance and five people inside the southbound truck.

A male paramedic, who was a passenger in the ambulance, was transported by EMS but later died.

A boy and a toddler girl were also rushed to hospital but were eventually pronounced dead as well.

Mounties said the rest of the people involved were also taken to hospital by paramedics with “undetermined injuries.”

In a news release Saturday afternoon, the Saskatchewan Health Authority confirmed one of its ambulances was involved in the collision. The ambulance was responding to a call at the time of the crash, according to the SHA.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with all patients, individuals and families that have been involved and impacted by this tragic accident,” the SHA media release read. “EMS personnel put themselves at risk to serve others, so it is especially heartbreaking when they are affected by such a crash.”

The health authority added it’s “working to have community and staff supports in place to provide mental health assistance where needed.”

According to RCMP, “road conditions were poor with slush and ice covered sections at the time of the collision.”

Alcohol is not considered a factor, police said.

Mounties noted the names of the deceased will not be released.

Beauval is located approximately 150 kilometres northeast of Meadow Lake.
