Saskatoon’s Municipal Wards Commission has established new boundaries for the 2020 Civic Elections.
The Municipal Ward Commission is set to present their decision on the matter as information only at Monday’s Regular Business Meeting.
Originally, three ward boundary options were drafted by the commission, created from public feedback which included two consultation meetings.
Due to the Cities Act, each ward must have the same population, within a variance of 10 per cent. The four wards that did not meet the threshold were wards 5, 7, 8, and 10.
Wards 5 and 8 were too small, and will add new areas, while wards 7 and 10 will shrink because of their population sizes.
The changes in the ward areas are as follows:
- Silverspring, University Heights Development Area and U of S Lands — North Management area will move from ward 10 to ward 5.
- Wildwood will be moving from ward 9 to ward 8.
- Eastview will move from ward 7 to ward 9.
- Brevoort Park will move from ward 8 to ward 9.
These changes will bring each wards population within the 24,372 – 29,787 population threshold.
The report also indicates that growth projections predict wards 3, 4, 8, 9 and 10 will need to be modified before the 2024 municipal election.
The ward boundaries will become effective as of the municipal and school board’s elections held on November 9, 2020.
