SaskPower is facing a hefty bill from Monday night’s power outage in Saskatoon.
Spokesperson Joel Cherry said the company estimates damage to their equipment to be in the $10,000 range.
Police charged a 27-year-old man with impaired driving after the pickup he was driving crashed into a power pole at 8th Street and Boychuk Drive.
Cherry added SGI would be responsible for going after the driver to recoup those costs.
The outage affected roughly a dozen east side neighbourhoods, including the University of Saskatchewan, which was forced to cancel morning classes.
Wade Epp, Associate Vice President of facilities said their back up power supply was able to keep emergency systems going during the outage.
Epp said with over eight million square feet of buildings, it is not an easy process to bring the campus back online.
