Battlefords RCMP are investigating the death of a 27-year-old man in Battleford early Friday morning as a murder.
The forensic identification unit and the major crimes unit remain on scene and continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the man’s death, but RCMP can confirm he was a victim of a homicide, a media release said.
Ryan John Gatzke was identified as the victim.
Officers are asking for anyone in the area of the 100 block of 26th Street West between midnight and 2 a.m. on Friday for information concerning Gatzke’s death or anything suspicious and out of the ordinary.
Observations could include anything from unfamiliar vehicles, loud noises or suspicious people or activity.
Police do not believe there is a threat to public safety, but they are reminding residents in Battleford and North Battleford to continue to report suspicious activity to police.
An autopsy has been completed by the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.
