'Considering the circumstances ... this is best-case scenario,' Cole Cusitar said.
Duran Laplante will spend the next five years in prison in the 2018 stabbing death of Elijah Kozak.
Kozak was found hurt in a hallway of the Marquis Towers apartment building on 5th Avenue North on Aug. 10, 2018.
The 24-year-old died of his injuries in the hospital.
Days later police charged Laplante with second-degree murder and issued a warrant for his arrest.
At the time police said Laplante and Kozak knew each other and had gotten into a fight.
Laplante pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.
He was sentenced to five years on Thursday.
