The town of Lanigan needs your help to take home $250,000 for a new swimming pool.
It’s one of four towns chosen to be in the Kraft Heinz Project Play contest, and the only competitor from Saskatchewan.
The town that gets the most votes takes home the grand prize. The polls are open until Sunday at 10 a.m.
Jennifer Thompson, Lanigan’s chief administrative officer, thinks they can make it happen.
“There is no limit to voting, so you can vote all day, every day for the next 48 hours,” she said on Friday morning.
The town made it into the finals through the contest’s “rally points” system. These points were earned through social media engagement and sharing stories about the community.
Thompson said she wasn’t surprised by how well Lanigan did.
“Everybody has been hitting social media, sending out texts, emails… just getting support,” she told 650 CKOM.
It makes her feel great to see what her town can do. She was especially impressed with how much young people helped out.
“Just to see the kids rallying together and… believing, knowing, and trying to tell everybody how great our community is,” she said.
A win in the contest would make a new pool a very real possibility. They’ve currently raised just over $750,000 through corporate sponsors and fundraising events.
Production and planning will start once they hit the $1 million mark.
Thompson said she’s very grateful to everyone who’s contributed.
“It’s Saskatchewan, right? Everybody helps each other out.”
