BHP has set a date to decide the future of a potash mine it’s building east of Saskatoon at Jansen.
The mining company said Thursday its board would be asked to make a “final investment decision” in February 2021.
The company, which has invested $2.7 billion in the project to date, said underground infrastructure work would continue at the site. Excavation and lining of the production and service shafts is roughly 84 per cent complete.
“This will enable an efficient transition of the project team between the study and execution phase, should the project be approved,” said the company in its September production report.
The company has said the earliest production could begin is 2025.
