Wray Morrison: Big, but not biggest

So how important is tonight’s game for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Calgary? In terms of proving that the Riders can beat every team in the league, it’s big.

The Riders have already defeated the best team in the East (the Hamilton Tiger-Cats). To get a win over the defending Grey Cup champions would be a confidence-booster that could give Saskatchewan an advantage if these two teams meet in the playoffs.

It’s important to put this game into context. It’s not a must-win.

Saskatchewan, like the Stampeders and Bombers, is shooting for a first-round bye in the playoffs, if not a home playoff game. Two points separate the top three teams in the West Division.

The Riders and Stampeders both have three games remaining after tonight and both Saskatchewan and Calgary have a game in hand on Winnipeg. Nothing will be decided tonight.

Don’t get me wrong. Every game is big in October … until the next one.
