A new phone scam making the rounds in Saskatoon has people on edge.
More than 30 people have filed complaints with Saskatoon police after receiving calls from a 1-800 number on Friday followed by one that appeared to come from Saskatoon police.
During the first call, scammers claim people have violated federal laws and demand social insurance numbers and postal codes.
Shortly after a second call comes in, this time from a “spoofed” number that appears to be police.
A person claiming to be an officer pushes for personal information and threatens arrest, according to the real police in a media statement.
Police suggest people hang up and file an online report with both the Saskatoon Police Service and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Agency.
