The first snowfall of the season is expected to begin Sunday evening in the Saskatoon region.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for areas of southwest Saskatchewan, with accumulations of up to 30 centimetres expected.
In Saskatoon, up to 10 centimetres could fall.
City of Saskatoon roadways manager, Tracy Danielson, said the crews are ready for what’s coming.
“We have 10 high speed snowplows, 15 graders, and six sanders ready to go to address any worsening road conditions.”
Danielson said because this is early in the season, they are prepared to keep their eyes on any changes, as the weather can be unpredictable this time of year.
“Because this is so early in the year, temperatures haven’t dropped much below zero this fall, so we know the ground is still holding heat and that will minimize the formation of ice. So, we are expecting if we get snow right now, it’s going to create wet and slushy roads,” said Danielson.
Danielson also said, with milder temperatures in the forecast for next week, that will also likely melt any snow accumulations.
