There’s a high chance of snow in Saskatoon this weekend.
Kyle Fougere, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said it’s most likely on Sunday night.
“There’s going to be periods of rain, but as the temperatures start to drop, it’s looking like there’s going to be snow,” he said. “It looks like there is going to be snow mixed in with the rain.”
However, he’s not sure if the snow will stick around for long.
“The ground is going to be quite warm, so it’s difficult to say how much is actually going to accumulate versus melting, which will depend on how fast the snow falls,” he explained.
If the city does see flurries, moisture will come as well.
“A lot of the time, when it hits, it just melts,” Fougere said.
He thinks Saskatoon won’t see the worst of the province’s weather. Areas further south will likely have snow piled on the ground and colder temperatures.
“If anyone has any travel plans for Sunday or Monday, they should really pay attention to the weather,” Fougere said.
As of Friday, weather warnings were in effect for southern Alberta and the U.S. states of Montana, Idaho and Washington.
