A work place accident three years ago that left a man seriously hurt, has resulted in a hefty fine for a Saskatoon company.
Fire Sand Glass Real Estate pleaded guilty on Sept. 12 in Saskatoon Provincial Court to one count under Occupational Health and Safety regulations and ordered to pay $84,000.
Charges stemmed from a job site incident in August of 2016 near Saskatoon. A worker operating a scissor lift sustained serious injuries when the lift was struck by an overhead crane and was knocked to the ground.
A release from the province said the company had a duty to ensure the health and safety of the workers on site as the primary contractor.
“Prime contractors ensure policies, procedures and safe work practices are used on the worksite. They are also responsible for preparing a written plan that co-ordinates activities,” the release said.
The crane operator was also fined for their role in the accident.
