Two boys are facing charges after they pointed rifles at an RCMP officer during a break-in Wednesday in Punnichy.
In a media release, the Punnichy RCMP said an officer responded at about 7 p.m., to a report of a break-and-enter and theft at a residence.
When the officer arrived, he met the homeowner who reported two firearms were missing. He also pointed out the residence and nearby vehicles had what appeared to be bullet holes.
Inside the house, the officer walked into a dark storage room in the basement and encountered two male youths who were pointing rifles at him. The officer backed out of the room and, after getting the homeowner to safety, called for backup.
“From upstairs, the officer was able to communicate with the youths and convince them to surrender,” the RCMP’s release said. “After the two youths discarded the firearms, the officer took them into custody without incident.”
The youths were found with three loaded firearms.
The boys are in custody until their next court appearance on Monday in Regina.
