The CFL QB curse is moving south.
The National Football League is now down a few marquee names. Injuries forced Andrew Luck to retire, Drew Brees is out six weeks or more, Ben Roethlisberger’s season is over, Nick Foles will miss most of the season and Sam Darnold has mono.
But fans of any of the NFL teams with major QB injuries or illness should take solace in what we’ve seen in the CFL.
The backups aren’t that bad and in some cases like the Saskatchewan Roughriders it may have been a blessing to get Cody Fajardo on the field and see for ourselves he can be a marquee name.
Dane Evans, Nick Arbuckle and Chris Streveler are all giving other teams some film to ponder if they need a starting job in the future.
NFL fans can think their teams’ season is over but an injury to a starter just gives someone like Teddy Bridgewater, Gardner Minshew or Mason Rudolph a chance to make a name for themselves.
And need I remind you if Drew Bledsoe doesn’t get hurt, it wouldn’t have given Tom Brady a chance to begin his career as a starter?
