The RCMP is asking for the public’s help in identifying the individuals who assaulted two officers during an incident in La Ronge on Aug. 23.
In a media release, the RCMP said officers got a call at about 12:30 a.m., from a homeowner who was looking to have several unwanted guests removed from his house.
Two Mounties responded and were clearing out the house when a 29-year-old man assaulted both officers. Told that he was being arrested, the man tried to run, but was stopped by the officers.
According to the RCMP, that “resulted in further struggle to the ground as the male resisted the arrest.” As the officers tried to handcuff the man, several other individuals started assaulting the Mounties.
“Another group of people were observed to be filming the entire incident via cellphone, which lasted approximately 10 minutes,” the media release said. “After being struck repeatedly, the officers were able to position themselves to safety by drawing a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW), which caused the group to distance themselves.”
That ended the incident. The officers suffered minor injuries.
The RCMP now is asking to see the video taken by the onlookers in hopes of identifying the individuals who attacked the officers.
Anyone with information is asked to call the La Ronge RCMP at 306-425-6730, the Saskatchewan RCMP at 306-310-7267 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
