It doesn’t seem like a year since Brooke Henderson arrived in Saskatchewan to win the Canadian Women’s Open.
After a week of great crowds, unpredictable weather and outstanding golf, Henderson finished 21 strokes under par through four rounds at the Wascana Country Club, making her the first Canadian woman to win this country’s top golf tournament since 1973. She’s trying to defend her title this week at the Magna Golf Club in Aurora, Ont.
Henderson has won two LPGA tournaments since winning the Canadian Open, giving her nine tour victories, one more than the previous record shared by fellow Canadians Sandra Post, George Knudson and Mike Weir. Using that as an indicator, Henderson is now Canada’s best-ever golfer.
Everyone who watched her play last year already believed that. Her drives were longer than most of her fellow competitors. She swings a club smoothly, plus she was gracious and appreciative of everyone who helped make the 2018 Canadian Women’s Open into such a memorable event. And her performance in Saskatchewan has linked her to this province forever.
