The hunt for two B.C. murder suspects resulted in a heart-stopping event for a Saskatchewan couple.
On July 31, Dakota Shepherd and Jade Primeau were on their way to a powwow in Kawacatoose when they stopped in Tisdale to ask for directions.
Unknown to them, someone at the gas station called 9-1-1 reporting Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, and Kam McLeod, 19 were in their vehicle.
The RCMP caught up to the vehicle on Highway 6 near Watson, leading to a tense traffic stop for the parents and their two young children in the backseat.
“They have their guns out, babe,” Primeau said on a video Shepherd posted to Facebook.
“It’s OK, don’t be worried,” he said as they attempted to calm each other.

Officers are heard shouting commands at the couple to exit the vehicle with their hands up, but the nearly eight-minute-long video never shows officers drawing rifles.
The RCMP confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that officers did draw their weapons, which is normal procedure during a high-risk traffic stop.
“We take these calls very seriously,” said RCMP media spokesperson Jessica Cantos. “The outcome of this was very positive. It helped us quickly confirm the driver and passenger were not the suspects.”
The video ends with the couple laughing off their “scary” ordeal and shaking hands with officers who praised them for their co-operation.
