If you don’t like Cody Fajardo, you’re in the minority in Saskatchewan. Actually you may be the only person.
Fajardo is tough, gutsy, talented, team-oriented and likes corn dogs.
I know atheists may roll their eyes at his sprinkle of Jesus catch-phrase, but Fajardo has endeared himself quickly to Saskatchewan Roughriders fans.
Maybe it has to do with four wins in the last five games and fans will sour if losses start to build up, but Riders fans are enjoying it as it comes.
It’s the first time since Darian Durant that the team has felt they have a franchise quarterback; now the attention shifts from Jeremy O’Day’s trade of Zach Collaros to Jeremy O’Day’s ability to lock up Fajardo to a contract extension as the first-year starter’s stock rises.
Fajardo is a free agent after this season and there is no reason to hesitate on insuring Fajardo stays right here to lead this team beyond 2019.
You can’t teach the intangibles that Fajardo has displayed in his first six games as a starter.
And most importantly, his teammates love him. That’s a guy you want to make sure you keep around.
