Saskatchewan’s high heat remains across all southern portions of the province, with Environment Canada issuing heat warnings for those regions.
As of 8 a.m. Friday, the weather office had issued heat warnings for all five south Saskatchewan cities — Regina, Moose Jaw, Weyburn, Estevan and Swift Current — and their surrounding regions
“A hot and humid airmass over southern Saskatchewan will remain in place for a few days.
“Daytime highs are forecast to be 32 C or higher with overnight lows near 16 C,” its heat warning read.
Swift Current is forecasted to reach 33 C, while Maple Creek in the far south west of the province is predicted to reach 35 C.
The areas covered by the heat warning reached as far north as Macklin, on the province’s western side; it also covered areas just south of Saskatoon, including Dundurn.
Yorkton and its surrounding region weren’t covered by Environment Canada’s heat warning.
Environment Canada warned people to “watch for the effects of heat illness: Swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
“Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.”
Hail, thunder lightning hit Saskatoon
Loud, booming thunder shook people from their beds Friday morning.
Environment Canada said the storm cells that moved through the area did not warrant a warning.
Along with sporadic downpours, small hail was reported in the north-east end of the city.

The city’s landfill was briefly shutdown due to lighting and numerous power outages were reported, however they were short lived.

Hazel said the storms in the Saskatoon area would end this morning, but another set of thunderstorms are expected to redevelop Friday afternoon for a larger area of the province.
