When Zach Collaros arrived in Saskatchewan in 2018, I tweeted that Collaros was 14-15-0 against West Division opponents in his career. I was accused of being negative.
Collaros didn’t have a bad 2018 season, although the nine-touchdown-to-13-interception ratio statistic does jump off the page. Had Saskatchewan’s defence not been on a record-setting scoring pace, I’m not sure the Riders would have finished 12-6-0.
Then there were injury issues. After miscalculating an injury in the early part of the 2018 season, Collaros was hurt again in late October, and left the team without a veteran quarterback for the playoffs.
In 2019, when the Riders failed to land any one of the big-name free-agent quarterbacks — Bo Levi Mitchell, Mike Reilly or Trevor Harris — they were forced to re-sign free-agent Zach Collaros. The excitement in Riderville wasn’t the same as it was the year earlier when Collaros joined the Green and White.
It turns out I wasn’t negative at all … just a realist.
